FEDERAL SPECIFICATION
WIPE SOLVENTS, EXEMPT AND NON-EXEMPT
INACTIVE FOR NEW DESIGN AFTER 19 APRIL 2001
The General Services Administration has authorized
the use of this federal specification by all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE AND CLASSIFICATION
1.1. Scope. This specification covers exempt and non-exempt organic wipe solvents to be used in hand-wipe cleaning operations.
1.2 Classification.
1.2.1 Types. The types of wipe solvents are as follows:
Type I - Non-exempt, low vapor pressure composition (available only as classes B
and C) (see 6.1).
Type II - Exempt composition (0 grams/liter volatile organic compound (VOC) content) (see 6.1).
1.2.1 Classes. The classes of wipe solvents are as follows: Class A - Flash point of 20 to 99 °F (-7 to +37 °C)
Class B - Flash point of 100 to140 °F (38 to 60 °C)
Class C - Flash point above 140 °F (60 °C) Class D - No flash point
