ABSORBENT MATERIAL, OIL AND WATER (FOR FLOORS AND DECKS)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description, for all federal agencies.
1. Scope. This commercial item description covers absorbent clay/silicate floor sweep.
2. Salient Characteristics:
2.1 Materials. The absorbent material shall consist of a uniform mixture of minerals of the silicate type processed in such a manner as to conform to the requirements in Table 1.

2.2 Absorption of lubrication oil. Tape an 18-mesh screen over one end of a glass tube measuring 23 cm in length and 3 cm in inside diameter. Weigh 50 g of the absorbent material into the open end of the glass tube held in a vertical position. Collect any fine particles passing through the screen and add to the top of the tube. Clamp the tube at an angle of 60 degrees to the horizontal above a 100 ml graduate. Pour 75 ml of SAE 30 weight lubricating oil at 25° C into the open end of the tube.
