Salient characteristics.
Mop strings when impregnated with the compound, shall retain not less than 22 percent of their own weight of synthetic soil. (see notes).
Type I compound shall be stable, without separation or creaming container.
Type II compound shall form a stable emulsion when mixed 1 part compound to 6 parts water, i.e., the emulsion shall stand without separation or creaming for not less than 1 hour after mixing.

Dirt pick-up efficiency:
Impregnation. Weigh 20 to 30 g of dry mop strings to nearest 0.0 g immerse for 10 minutes in Type I and Type II, diluted 6- with water. Remove strings from compound and shake to remove excess liquid. Age for 24 hours at 25o+2oC, and 50+5 percent relati9ve humidity and weigh. Then age for 48 hours at 50 + 2oC and 65+5 percent relative humidity. Allow to come room temperature and weigh. The amount of compound on the mop strings after the 48 hours aging should be 17.5 percent minimum and 35 percent maximum, and the impregnated mop after 48 hours aging shall be within 1 percent of its weight after the 24 hours aging.
Synthetic soil. Prepare a synthetic soil according to the following formulations,
