This description covers a non-caustic liquid cleaning compound suitable for spraying on soiled surfaces to remove baked on grease and carbonized soil deposits from ovens, grills, fryers and other washable surfaces.
Salient characteristics.
The product shall be a homogeneous solution containing synthetic detergents, builders and alkali designed to be used to remove grease and carbonized soil from ovens, grills, fryers and other washable surfaces. There shall be no separation, sediment or foreign matter.
Total alkali. The product shall contain not more than 7.0 percent by weight total alkali as sodium oxide when tested as specified In ASTM D 460 sections 19 and 20.
pH. The pH of the undiluted product shall be not less than 12.3 when tested as ASTM E 70.
The issues of the referenced test methods in effect on the date of solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with stated requirements.
Performance. When tedted as follows, the product shall completely remove the soil from 4 porcelain enamel test panels.
The test soil shall consist of:

Dissolve the sugar in the water, heating as necessary to completely dissolve the sugar. Add softened butter to the solution and mix thoroughly. Add flour to mixture and stir until uniform mixture is obtained. Except for dissolving sugar, the mixing can be done at room temperature.
Apply the soil to the porcelain enamel test panels at a rate of 0.080 g per 20 square inches of panel surface. Spread the soil evenly over the entire top surface of the panels. Place the panels in a baking tray and place another inverted baking tray over the top of the first. Seal the seams with aluminium foil to prevent air currents from disturbing the soil film during baking. Place the trays in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F and bake for 120 minutes. Allow to cool room temperature.
Place two panels in vertical position and two panels in a horizontal position. Use a trigger operated sprayer to apply the undiluted product to the soiled panels until the product completely covers the surface of the panels. Allow the panels to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. Damp sponge lightly and flush with water. Dry the panels, place in original position and repeat the procedure. The product shall completely remove the soil from all four panels.
Labeling. The product shall be labelled with directions for use, and with precaution statements in accordance with the Federal Hazardous Substances Act Regulations (Code of Federal Regulations, Title 16, Part 1500).
