4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS
4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the government. The government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to ensure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements.
4.2 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are classified as follows:
a. First article inspection (see 4.3)
b. Quality conformance inspection (see 4.4)
4.3 First article inspection. First article testing shall consist of all requirements and tests specified in this specification, and shall be accomplished on the first production lot of a contract or purchase order, when specified (see 6.2). Failure of any examination or test shall result in first article disapproval.
4.4 Quality conformance inspection. The quality conformance inspection shall consist of the following tests: composition, specific gravity, VOC content, non-volatile content, water content, acidity, acid acceptance, halide, odor, flash point, sandwich corrosion, and immersion corrosion. Any failure shall constitute cause for rejection.
4.4.1 Lot formation. A lot shall consist of all material manufactured at one time from one batch, forming part of one contract, and submitted for acceptance.
